What the walk feels like

Group of people standing in a grassy field with trees and a blue sky, watching a teacher hold a mushroom while talking about it

A mushroom walk is a slow, observant way of learning in the field. You will move through real habitat with Martin, stop often to look closely, and talk about what is growing, where it is growing, and what details are worth noticing.

There is time for questions throughout, and no prior knowledge is needed.

What you’ll notice and learn

  • Where mushrooms tend to appear, how to identify edible, poisonous, and functional mushrooms
  • The ecology and purpose of fungi in natural systems
  • How to describe a mushroom more clearly in the field
  • How to keep learning from what you see after the walk is over
  • The goal is not to memorize everything in one walk. It is to start seeing more than you saw before, and to leave with a better sense of what to notice when you are out again.
