Medicinal or Functional Mushrooms are an exploding topic. With all the research happening and new products becoming available a deeper exploration. Together, we look at the functional pathways and research. Then we prepare several different types of preparations hands-on.
Session 1 Zoom – Friday, February 20th 7:00 to 8:30 PM MST
- · What makes mushroom medicinal? Introduction to fungal biology.

Session 2 – Zoom – Tuesday, February 24 th 7:00 to 8:30 PM MST
· Mushroom Compounds:

- VOCs
Session 3 – Zoom – Thursday, February 26th 7:00 to 8:30 PM MST
· How mushrooms affect the body.
o Anti-microbials / anti-virals.
o Antioxidants
o Immune function
o Nerve growth factors
o Gut health
o Joint health
o Heart health
o Sugar control
o Mental health:

§ Alzheimer’s / dementia
§ Neurological conditions
In Person: Saturday, February 28th 9:00 to 4:30
Morning:
- · Basics of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
- · Homeostasis
- · Use of mushrooms in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
- · Top mushrooms in the Chinese Pharmacopeia
- · Extraction - mushroom hydrolysate
Lunch:
Afternoon:
- · Making mushroom preparations: tinctures, decoctions, creams, lotions, fibres.

· Choosing the delivery system: what preparations to use and when.
- o Fresh vs dried,
- o Fruiting body vs mycelium.
- o What to watch out for when purchasing commercial products.
- · Mushroom contraindications.
Included: refreshments, mushroom lunch. Lunch will be medicinal, gluten - free and omnivorous. If that doesn't suit you, please bring your own lunch.
