In Alberta, summer has a great variety of mushrooms. It can be quite the challenge to sort out all those tempting mushrooms and confusing look-alikes. We focus on about a dozen edible mushrooms you can safely pick plus teach you to identify a few unexpected ones that we forage along the way.
The Workshop starts out with:
July 7, 2026- 7:30-9:00 Zoom talk - Introduction to the kingdom of fungi and world of mushrooms.
July 9, 2026 (TBA) - 7:30-9:00– Zoom talk - Basic mushroom ID and what SUMMER mushrooms you should be searching for.
Summer 2026 (TBA) Location TBA in the greater Edmonton area.
- 12:00 to 2:00. Mushroom foraging. After a short intro on the basics of foraging, we forage.
- 2:00 to 4:00– Sorting out the finds and looking at identification features, discussing the edible, the poisonous and the medicinal.
- 4:30 AND BEYOND – Cook and taste of our foraged edible summer mushrooms..
Field location to be announced.
Things to bring: Assorted clothing layers for all eventualities, hat, sun screen, bug dope, sturdy boots or shoes (we may hit some wet spots), a good knife in a safe sheath, a loupe or magnifier if you have one, a basket or bucket, mushroom field guides. Any mushrooms you need help identifying? Bring them along!
Things to buy on site: Mushroom field guides. knives, baskets, loupes and other stuff.
